Carmel River State Beach is a gorgeous white sand beach located in the whimsical village of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. The park features the aptly named Carmel River Lagoon and Wetlands Natural Preserve and is the outflow point of the Carmel River. We stopped at the Carmel River State Beach in a typical July weekday – we had a perfect beach day – sunny and calm weather, not very crowded, and amazing but is great for bird views! we sat on the rocks and watched whales off in the distance! Walk to Carmel River State Beach before retracing your steps, and stopping to admire this epic intersection of land and sea. Tip: Carmel is one of the most walkable towns you’ll find. Leave the car where you parked it when you arrived, and walk down Ocean Ave. to the beach before exploring Scenic Ave. paths along the beach.
