Today, Statistics Canada is releasing a study titled Non-permanent residents in Canada: Portrait of a growing population from the 2021 Census, which looks at the characteristics of NPRs by their reason for temporary residence in Canada, based on results from the 2021 Census of Population. The median after-tax income of the 2016 Census Canadian families and unattached individuals was $74,200 in 2023, increasing 1.2% from $73,300 in 2022, after being adjusted for inflation. Canada’s official poverty rate was 10.2% in 2023, which was not statistically different from the 2022 rate (9.9%) or the 2019 rate (10.3%) observed before the COVID -1 9 pandemic.

The median after-tax income of Canadian families and unattached individuals was $70,500 in 2022, a decrease from $73,000 in 2021 (-3.4%), adjusted for inflation.
